Districts may register up to 5 participants prior to October 31, 2014, after which time staff on the waitlist will be registered on a first come first served basis through the end of registration on November 7, 2014. Districts wishing to send more than 5 participants may email the Center for Childcare Careers at mail@cccfscm.org to place staff on the waitlist.

The Morning will begin with a complimentary continental breakfast, coffee and juice. Lunch will be provided and there will be a boxed lunch containing a wrap sandwich, fruit and chips. Coffee and cookies will be served in the afternoon. If someone registering for this conference has a food allergy, you must email the Center for Childcare Careers no later than November 7th at mail@cccfscm.org

You have all this data....Now what?
Keynote Speaker: Judy Jablon. Early Childhood Consultant and Author
Does assessment feel like an added burden? It can be when the focus of assessment is on logisitics and management rather than on the meaningful process of collecting data to get to know children and make decisions about their learning. The keynote will address the myriad of ways educators use formative assessment data to guide decision-making during teacher-child interactions, lesson planning, conversations with families, and collegial conversations.
Morning Workshop Sessions (participants will choose one to attend)
1. Using assessment to extend learning during teacher-child interactions
Presenter: Judy Jablon
In this workshop participants will examine how to use observation and assessment to enhance teacher-child interactions. Participants will learn to turn everyday interactions into Powerful Interactions using a three-step approach: be present so you can observe and be intentional; connect to deepen your relationship with the child; and extend learning in ways that are individually responsive to each child.
2. MKEA and the Role of Administrators
Presenters: Donna Traynham (ESE), Rose Kirschner (Teaching Strategies)
This workshhop is intended for district administrators and other early childhood leaders who will play a role in analyzing MKEA data and assisting teachers in determinng how the information can inform instruction and learning. The workshop will provide a brief overview of the types of reports and summaries that can be complied using MKEA data while also hearing from year 1 and 2 districts on how they've used the KEA data to inform instruction, interventions, and educator evaluation as well as to engage with families.
3. Formative Assessment & Building the Foundation for College and Career Readiness from Birth through Grade 3
Presenter: Stephanie Lyda (SE Readiness Center)
In early May the first draft of Building the Foundation for College and Career Readiness from Birth through Grade 3 was released. This document is aligned with the Massachusetts Definition of College and Career Readiness and reflects the unique developmental experiences of children from birth trhough grade 3. In this workshop educators and administrators will explore alignment between the essential competencies identified in the document and their formative assessment data and learn about how MKEA data fits within the context of the Birth through Grade 3 continum. 4. Building Bridges Between Data and Positive Child Outcomes: Coaching Teachers for Improved Learning
Presenters: Janice Powell and Nancy Hart, Teaching Strategies

5. Implications of Early Childhood Formative Assessment on pre-service and on-going professional development
Presenter: Doug McNally (Berkshire Readiness Center)
Administrators, teacher and other early childhood professionals will engage in a discussion about the importance of a strong system of professional development related to formative assessment in the early childhood classroom. Workshop presenters will discuss professional development needs related to the MKEA initiative, efforts at a district level to include observation and formative assessment in professional delvelopmnet plans related to the Educator Evaluation system, as well as the role that institutions of higher education can play in supporting incoming and veteran early childhood teachers in observation and understanding how observational data can be used to inform instruction.
6. Making the Most of Your Formative Assessment Data
Presenter: Kim Davenport, (Central MA Readiness Center)
This workshop will highlight the ways in which Massachusetts educators use formative assessment in their classrooms, planning IEP meetings, with parents , and more. Educators will hear from a panel of their colleagues, as they share their challenges and progress, and what in changing in their districts as they begin using their data.
Afternoon Session (everyone will attend this session)
Making It Real: Using Formative Assessment Data at your school site
Educators and administrators will break up by region to discuss and plan for using formative assessment data at their school site(s). This session will support the integration of the information presented in the morning sessions. Regional Readiness Centers will facilitate. There will be opportunities for discussion and sharing with colleagues. During this session faciltators will collect feedback from each district about a highlight and challenge in implementing MKEA. This information will inform planning for upcoming years.
