About the Presenters:

Sally Pearce, Colorado State Byway Coordinator Emeritus

Sally Pearce serves as Co-Executive Director of the National Scenic Byway Foundation and is also a consultant. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Ms. Pearce has lived in Colorado since 1979. She received her M.A. in Historic Preservation from Colorado State University and her B.A. in American Studies from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Ms. Pearce served as the State Scenic Byways Program Coordinator for the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byways Program at the Colorado Department of Transportation for twenty years. In addition, she also served as the Department’s Staff Historian for thirteen years. She is a published author, including a guide to Colorado architecture and several books on historic mining districts.

Charlotte Bumgarner, Gold Belt Byway Leader and Resource Protection Grant Coordinator

Charlotte Bumgarner serves as Executive Director for the Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway Association since 2001. Prior to becoming ED she was on the committee that formed the Gold Belt organization (1997) and served as their first President. Charlotte was recently awarded the Southern Colorado Conservation Award ‘FRIEND OF OPEN SPACE’. She serves as the Treasurer for the National Scenic Byway Foundation. Charlotte is a Colorado native, growing up in Canon City. She is married and they live on the family ranch where they raised 2 daughters.

Amber Shanklin, Pikes Peak Region Conservation Director for the Palmer Land Trust

Amber Shanklin serves as Director for the Palmer Land Trust in Colorado Springs since 2015.  Prior to that she was the Program Director for the Rocky Mountain Field Institute for two and a half years. She worked as an ecologist with the Bureau of Land Management, performed graduate research studies with Colorado State University, was a manager with The Nature Conservancy, and worked as a restoration technician with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
