IN THE WORKPLACE

Harassment at work is a very real concern for many individuals. The rules surrounding the use of social media in the work environment are often poorly communicated and misunderstood. This program has been developed specifically for our WLF audience of professional women and individuals involved in the ownership or management of small businesses, with the goal of clarifying key points and addressing common concerns related to these two trending "hot topics."

Mr. Kolbenschlag will discuss harassment in the workplace, including:

• What is, and is not, considered sexual harassment in the eyes of the law?
• What state and federal laws protect employees against harassment?
• What steps should you take if you are subject to (or witness) harassment in the workplace?
• How can an employer protect its employees from harassment and insulate itself from liability for claims of harassment made by employees?
• How should employee handbooks address the topic of harassment?

Ms. Obradovic will address social media in the workplace. Her presentation will focus on issues including:

• Can an employer restrict its employees’ use of social media at work?
• What can employers do if an employee posts a disparaging remark about the employer or a co-worker?
• Can an employer access an applicant’s social media profile to aid in a hiring decision?
• Can employers discipline their employees for social media activity?
• How should employers draft social media policies to protect themselves and apprise their employees of the appropriate use of social media?
• Can social media be used in litigation?
