For individuals over 50 and aspiring new entrepreneurs, SCORE Houston, in cooperation with Small Business Administration, lenders and financial planners, present a workshop on Starting and Funding a Business.

Participants will have the opportunity to network with fellow entrepreneurs and meet the lenders at the end of the workshop. SCORE certified mentors will be there to interact and plan future line of action.

Resource Speakers:

1. SCORE Services – presented by Richard Rybacki

Dick joined Score in 2012 and presently serves as the Houston Chapter’s President.  He has also served as a mentor in the Chapter and as the Assistant Manager of the Day at its main office, Lead Mentor at its Katy location, Vice President—Education Programs and Executive Vice President.

Prior to Joining SCORE he held a variety of executive and general management roles in business units for Siemens Water Technologies and Baker Hughes.  His specialty is in environmental services including waste and wastewater management and treatment and, additionally, in specialty chemicals.

Dick did his undergraduate work at Illinois State University, received his M.S. degree in chemistry from Purdue University and has done additional graduate work in wastewater treatment engineering at the University of Texas.

2. SBA Programs and Services – presented by LaDonna Barbee

LaDonna was born and raised in Little Rock, AR and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, majoring in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in Psychology.  After a career in Radio and Television, she decided to return to lending.  She started her government career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, working in Rural Housing and Rural Business-Cooperative Services.  She later transferred to the U.S. Department of Defense in San Antonio, TX and worked with military soldiers (wounded warriors) as they transitioned into medical retirement.  She again returned to lending by transferring to the U.S. Small Business Administration, where she will continue to help this agency gain exposure and spread SBAs mission.

3. DRDA CPAs & Business Consultants Programs and Services – presented by Susan Granger

Suzy will discuss how to use your 401(k) funds to start a business. Suzy works directly with entrepreneurs to assist them in funding for their businesses. 

4. Houston Federal Credit Union Programs and Services – presented by Russel Hughes 

With more than twenty five years of banking experience, Mr. Hughes has had direct involvement with all management and administrative responsibilities of SBA lending, operations and personnel management. Most recently, he managed the SBA Departments of two Houston banks. He directed a staff of fourteen with functions of loan procurement, loan servicing and compliance. He is well recognized in the SBA market both in Texas and nationally having served as a member of the roundtable to the National Director in Washington, D.C.
