Beyond Conceal Carry - June 7-8, 2014 - $400

This is a 16 plus hour course designed for the Concealed Carrier or someone slightly more advanced than a beginner but with little or no formal training outside of the CCW course.

Day one starts with the basics of handgun safety and marksmanship and quickly progresses to some basic dynamic movement and defensive scenarios (like shooting from cover, moving and shooting, advancing and retreating, defending hallways, one handed shooting, shooting around barricades, proper use of cover, shooting steel on the move, the art of making hits quickly out of the holster.)

Day two increases the speed and incorporates teaching you to engage multiple targets with correct target priority. We will also cover the ODDA loop, how mammals fight and rescuing someone you love at gunpoint.

Each day at lunch Jon will be delivering a lecture on such topics as what to do if you are caught in an active shooter event and using modern technology to enhance your personal security.

Bob and Ben are both NRA Pistol Instructors and have been teaching firearms for several years.

Bob has been the host of the “HandgunWorld Podcast” for the past 4 years and has over 120 hours of training under his belt.

Ben has several years of Marine Combat experience and several years of carrying a gun as an armored car driver.

Jon is an active competitor and shoots in IDPA, USPSA and multi gun. Jon is an instructor with the Massad Ayoob Group, he also teaches armed active shooter response to schools through the ASSERT Program. He is an ALETA civilian instructor and teaches Law Enforcement officers from basic patrol officers to entire SWAT teams.

Jon is a graduate of numerous classes including:

Lethal Force Institute Level I-IV (Winner of Signed Five Dollar Bill from Mas)

Range Master Level II, IV (class winner of shoot off) Basic Handgun Instructor (Top Gun) Advanced Handgun Instructor

Christian Security Institute Gatekeeper Level I-III

TEES (Tactical Energetic Entry Systems) Dignitary Protection

He currently resides in Rogers, AR with his wife, Kim and their 7th daughter, Shiloh, who is 6, and a giant English Mastiff named Tallulah.

What to Bring to Class

A good quality handgun, suitable for self-protection and/or concealed carry.  Remember that you will be firing approximately 800 rounds during this class, so ultra-lightweight firearms, though suitable for concealed carry, are not a good choice for class use.  If you have any questions about the suitability of your gun, please contact us.  It is a good idea to bring a spare gun, if you have one, just in case your primary gun breaks. (it happens more than you think)

A good quality holster for your handgun (no nylon generic pouches please). You need a safe, quality holster and belt (flimsy, woven or fabric dress belts will not work).  Again, if you have any questions, please contact us. NO BLACKHAWK SERPA holsters.

A minimum of 3 magazines or speed loaders for your handgun.

A magazine pouch/holder for at least 2 of your spare magazines or speed loaders.

A sturdy belt, to support the above.

Hearing protection.

Eye protection.

Billed cap or other brimmed headwear.

Sturdy footwear – hiking boots, etc… No open-toed footwear will be allowed.

Whatever medications, liquids, food stuffs, band-aids, sun screen, etc., you’ll need for the day.

At least 800 rounds of decent quality, reliable ammunition. Range ammunition (FMJ, etc.) is fine.  You do not need to use premium self-defense ammo for this course.

Clothing suitable for the weather and the range. If necessary, we will finish our range work in whatever conditions exist at class time, live-fire classes run rain or shine, mud may be involved.

A cover garment like a light shirt, vest or jacket. We draw from concealment in this class.

Rain gear plus a light jacket and sweater or sweatshirt (mornings and evenings can be cold).

Note-taking materials. You will need to take LOTS of notes. We’ll explain why when you get here. If you wish to use a laptop computer or a tablet, that is OK. Audio or video recording of the class is not allowed.

Firearm cleaning supplies plus any tools / lubricants that you might need.

A flashlight. Although we will not be doing any night shooting, it can get dark fairly early and our facilities have no lighting at the range.  A flashlight might be handy for packing up your gear and getting to your car.

You will also need a box, gun case or container of some sort to transport your gun(s) from the car to the firing line. If you carry your gun on your person, no problem, leave it holstered. We do all gun handling on the firing line, NOT in the parking lot. You’ll have opportunity to swap out carry ammunition. What we don’t want are ANY guns to be out of containers or holsters anywhere behind the firing line!

Please note that the above list is just the essentials. You may bring additional items (such as a range bag, extra magazines, folding chairs and tables, tarps etc.), if you choose.

Our range has portable toilets, no running water. For your comfort you might want to bring wipes, disposable washcloths and / or hand sanitizer.

Please bring your own lunches, snacks, beverages etc. We have a “working lunch” in all classes. Also remember that our class is 10 hour days so if you need another meal in that amount of time please bring it.  Bring water! While we do provide water, it never hurts to bring extra.
