Air Barrier Rodeo - BEC

Sponsored by

The Building Enclosure Council (BEC, Utah Chapter), AIA Utah, and the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) have partnered to bring you a lecture and workshop event structured to educate the AEC community in the effective design and integration of modern building air barriers. Possibly no element in the building enclosure is more important, more misunderstood, and more likely to be mis-used on your building than the air barrier.

This workshop will provide a full-day educational workshop on building air tightness from a design, installation, and testing aspect. The program will utilize lectures to review the principles of building science in regards to air moisture flow, environmental conditions, and various design considerations that just be taken into account in the design phase.

Learning Objectives - Attendees will learn to:

1. Describe the typical design considerations and priorities for creating a durable, air tightness layer within the building enclosure.

2. Identify the typical sequence of installation of a specific air barrier product type and understand the compatibility and continuity issues

3. Ability to install a specific type of air barrier material and related components in a continuous and durable fashion

4. Identify the critical details in the design and installation phase to ensure long-term durability of the system and long term performance
