December 2016 Global Health Series - Sustainable Solutions to Maternal Child Health Disparities

The Global Health Residency Tracks of Christiana Care Health System , in partnership with the Delaware Academy of Medicine & Delaware Public Health Association, are pleased to invite you to this month's global health talk.

Our speaker will be Michelle L. Drew, DNP, MPH, CNM, FNP-C Certified Nurse Midwife with Christiana Care Health System Women's Health Services.

Dr. Drew first became interested in Global health when she went on a short term medical mission in 2000. She realized that these trips may provide limited short-term good, however they could not make long-term sustainable improvement in the health and wellness of the community. Since then she wanted to find sustainable ways to work in Global Health. She worked in Zambia from 2000-2006 at Namwianga Rural Center as a nurse providing relief for the physician who lived and worked as a long term missionary. She also completed her Masters in Public Health capstone studying malaria prevalence rates in pregnant women and comparing them to pregnancy outcomes. Dr. Drew has been a Maternal Child Health Programs Consultant from 2007-present, as well as worked in Midwifery/Primary Care practices in Zambia, Peru, Nicaragua and to immigrant and refugee populations in the United States.

Dr. Drew earned her BSN from Jacksonville University, her MPH and TM from Tulane School of Public Health, her MSN from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (FNP and Certified Nurse Midwife), and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Texas Woman's University.

The CCHS Global Health Curriculum is an interdepartmental collaboration, supporting the Global Health Tracks in the Depts. of Medicine and Family Medicine, and the Med-Peds Residency, with the support of the Delaware Academy of Medicine, Delaware Public Health Association, and Delaware Academy of Family Physicians.
