Teaching Social Skills Using CBT & Play Therapy

in MD 

Description:

Some skills are best taught in a group setting. Using directive play therapy and cognitive behavior therapy approaches this workshop will focus on pro-social behaviors to include how to make and keep friends, anger management, understanding social cues, dealing with bullies, how to join a group, and assertive communication. All of these skills are needed for self-regulation and to sustain relationships. An array of story-telling, role-playing and the creative arts will be used to reinforce concepts.

 

Objectives:

  • Using directive play therapy approaches, demonstrate how to teach pro-social skills

  • Demonstrate use of cognitive behavior techniques to teach pro-social skills

  • Describe strategies for coaching parents to use CBT strategies to help their child

Sonia Hinds, APRN-BC, RPT-S; Founder and Director of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. Founder and Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit organization that provides children’s mental health services.  Trained in Gestalt play therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired) and she is also trained in Child-Centered play therapy. Authored chapter, Play Therapy with African-American Children in text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S.

Cost:

  • EARLY BIRD (until June 2, 2017):  $125.00

  • LATE REGISTRATION (June 3 and after):  $150.00

Cancellation Policy: Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten working days prior to the training. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Otherwise, a voucher will be given. If you do not notify us a minimum of ten business days prior to the training of your intent to cancel, you will not receive a refund or credit.
