Victim Notification:

Best Practices for Law Enforcement and Advocates

September 17, 2014 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Broome County Sheriffs' Office

Knowing what to expect is an important element of safety planning for victims of domestic violence.  Automated victim notification systems, such as SAVIN-NY and VINE, can provide critical information regarding the service of an order of protection or the release of an offender.

This workshop will focus on the importance and the role of victim notification systems in the development and implementation of safety plans as well as identify and discuss the important role and responsibilities of both law enforcement and service providers during this critical period. In addition, this workshop will highlight best practices that support the most effective use of these systems, ultimately improving victim safety and offender accountability.

The scheduling of more workshops in other parts of the state to be announced.

Who should attend: This workshop, which is a collaborative effort of the NYS Sheriffs' Association Institute and the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV), is available for both domestic violence advocates and law enforcement personnel.
