Are you passionate about a worthy cause, or have you identified a group of people in need of help? If so, you have probably thought about starting a not-for-profit organization to help solve some of our country's social and economical problems.  This workshop will teach you, step by step, how to build a successful not-for-profit organization in Connecticut and identify resources that will help you help those in need.

Among the things you will learn in this workshop are:

  • How to make sure your cause is really "charitable"
  • The two types of not-for-profit organizations, and the differences between them
  • How to put together your nonprofit board of directors and management team
  • How to find wealthy donors and gain their support and trust
  • How to form a not-for-profit corporation or limited liability company (LLC)
  • How to write applications for government grants
  • How to raise funds for your not-for-profit organization
  • How to apply for tax-exempt (section 501(c)(3)) status from the IRS and the State of Connecticut
  • How to market and promote your not-for-profit activities
  • The three keys to success in a not-for-profit organization
  • How to find lawyers and accountants to help you with the paperwork
  • Connecticut government agencies that support not-for-profit organizations, and how to deal with them
