Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center
Wrightsville Beach Historic Square
Join Dr. Ami Wilbur, UNCW’s shellfish research hatchery manager, and Ted Wilgis, the federation’s oyster restoration specialist, for a hands-on talk about the history and science of our beloved native Eastern Oyster. Ted and Ami will discuss the heritage of oysters in North Carolina, interesting facts about oyster biology, current research and why oysters are critical to the health of our estuaries. Guests will get a chance to see live oysters and scallops, learn how to open an oyster and how to get involved in restoring oyster habitats.
The event is FREE for federation members and $10 for nonmembers. You can register for this event online below or in-person at the Coastal Education Center. Payments can be made in-person at the Coastal Education Center on the night of the event or in advance. All proceeds will benefit the federation's education programming.
From May through November, join us at the Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center to hear marvelous speakers bring to life their coastal experiences, passions and pursuits. For more information contact Ted Wilgis at tedw@nccoast.org or call 910.509.2838.
