The mission of La Leche League International is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

La Leche League is an international, non-profit, non-secretarian organization dedicated to support, encouragement, information and education to women who choose to breastfeed.

Children at the Conference: Babies and children interacting with their parents are an LLL conference's most distinctive and heartwarming sight. Families are responsible for considering and meeting their children's needs. If during a session your child becomes disruptive or needs comforting, everyone appreciates your reason for leaving the room and returning when your child is ready.  Caregivers must be at least 12 years old and have your complete schedule.

There will be a child play area available Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 12:00-5:00 p.m. Cost is $5 per child for the entire time. Parents or caregivers must remain with children.

Strollers: Due to fire and insurance regulations, strollers are not permitted in the conference area. Exceptions will be made for an individual bringing multiples or if she or her child is physically challenged. To request a stroller permit, please contact Amity <amitygreer@gmail.com>. Protect your little one's safety in your arms or in a baby carrier.

Help Wanted: Volunteers will be scheduled for one or two sessions and will be entitled to a coupon worth $5 in Theme Basket tickets. To volunteer, please sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0545a8a62dab9-laleche1 or contact Jan <jcranston@wideopenwest.com>.

Refund Policy: Requests for refunds must be made in writing. Meals, donations, and merchandise are non-refundable. Full refunds (less a $15 handling fee) will be given on registration and activity fees, if the request is made prior to April 10, 2015. Half of the registration fee will be refunded on requests postmarked between April 10 and May 1, 2015. No refund requests will be honored after May 1, 2015. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request to: Marsha Pettinger, 868 South Waverly Rd., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. All refunds will be made after the conference.

Session Descriptions

Session I

101 THE RED HERRING OF GUILT--"We don't want to make mothers feel guilty." That's the reason given for not talking about the risks of formula-feeding and other baby-care strategies that reduce exclusive breastfeeding. But this concern about guilt is really a red herring--meant to distract us from the real issues. This presentation will cover what those "real issues" are and how to help mothers make informed decisions about how they feed their babies. Teresa Pitman

102 GENTLE BIRTH CHOICES--Ideas on how to have the birth you want. Labor support, comfort measures and relaxation. Clara Coppola

103 FROM 9-5 TO 24/7--Making the sometimes difficult, sometimes delightful, transition from career-focused to stay-at-home mom. Reclaiming the art of homemaking and child raising as a socially valued and fulfilling career. Angela Mayer

104 HOMESCHOOLING--Discussion and tips on facilitating successful home schooling experiences. Marta Shaw

Session II

201 CULTURAL COMPETENCY IN MOTHER-TO-MOTHER BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT--This session will be a dialogue about cultural competency and enrich session participants’ abilities to work in diverse settings. Explore how to be an active and sensitive listener in offering support to mothers. The role of identity, assumptions, and values will be discussed.  Zaje Harrell

202 HOT TOPICS IN BREASTFEEDING RESEARCH--An overview of the latest findings.  Rachel Peiffer

203 CELEBRATE LLLEADERSHIP: WE LOVED, WE LAUGHED, WE LEARNED--Enjoy time to reflect on how LLL Leadership has been a part of your life. This session is intended for veteran Leaders. Laura Probst

204 ORGANIZED HOME WITH TODDLERS UNDERFOOT--Want to organize your home? Is there too much clutter? Not enough time to clean/organize? We will focus on organizing your home with toddlers around. (You may not need to have a toddler to get useful information!) Cat Hindersman

Session III

301 SAFE SLEEP SEVEN--Despite the campaigns warning of the dangers of bedsharing, research tells us that if certain guidelines are followed, bedsharing can be as safe as baby sleeping alone in a crib - and babies who bedshare are far more likely to be breastfed exclusively and to breastfeed longer. Mothers get more sleep, too! We will outline the Safe Sleep Seven--the seven factors that make bedsharing safer--and the research behind them, as explained in the book Sweet Sleep. Teresa Pitman

302 LEGAL ISSUES AND BREASTFEEDING–-Jury duty, custody rights, and other legal issues will be discussed. Alyse Lange

303 HELPING WORKING MOTHERS BREASTFEED--Tips and strategies to help working mothers as they reach their breastfeeding goals. (For Leaders, Leader Applicants, and Mothers) Laura Probst

304 HELLO, THIS IS LLL--Role-play telephone helping calls. Effective listening skills, asking the right questions, the importance of phone logs, and resources available to Leaders. (For Leaders and Leader Applicants) Marsha Chartrand

Session IV

401 ENRICHING GROUP DYNAMICS-- One of the Area's fastest-growing Groups will share ideas and techniques for building attendance and hosting activities. If your Group is struggling with getting mothers to attend LLL meetings, come and gather some ideas so you can incorporate them into your Group! Ginny Braun, Angela Brusha, Amber Hale, Lynn Huber

402 LOW MILK SUPPLY-- Navigate the challenges of low or suppressed milk supply. Explore how to determine if milk supply is low and how to optimize milk supply. Methods of supplementation that support continued breastfeeding and case reports will also be discussed. Laura Spitzfaden

403 ESSENTIAL OILS–-Explore the benefits and basics of essential oils. TBA

404 LET'S TALK ABOUT TODDLERS—Discuss toddler nursing, nighttime parenting, setting limits and more. Bring your questions and issues. Cat Hindersman
