Professional and Supportive Communications with Families

 

Course Description: Helping families get involved as partners in their children’s learning starts with listening and responding. (Nemeth, 2015).   Establishing and maintaining trusting relationships and communication can be challenging and rewarding, especially considering the rapidly changing expectations of programs, families and modes of communication.  Explore and share a variety communication strategies, both written and verbal, and ways to develop trusting and supportive relationships while maintaining a professional relationship.


Course Objectives: Participants will:  
1. Identify challenges to communicating and engaging parents


2. Demonstrate effective techniques for written and verbal communication to enhance parent engagement

3. Practice the ethics of a professional child care relationship with parents including cultural respect, honoring the parents as a child's first educator, and confidentiality.
