Hi Chromosome 18 Family Members!
It’s time to begin the planning process for the 2013 Annual Chromosome 18 Family Conference (our 20th), to be held in the beautiful coastal city of Savannah, Georgia. Our conference will be held downtown at The Savannah Marriott Riverfront, located in central Savannah, close to Lucas Theatre, Johnson Square, and Wright Square. Additional points of interest include Forsyth Park and Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Hotel Features. Savannah Marriott Riverfront's restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 2 bars/lounges are open for drinks. Room service is available during limited hours. The hotel serves buffet breakfasts in the restaurant (surcharges apply). Recreational amenities include an outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a spa tub, and a fitness facility. This 3.5 star property has a business center and offers small meeting rooms, a technology helpdesk, and audiovisual equipment. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available in public areas. This Savannah property has 3345 square meters of event space consisting of a ballroom. Guest parking is available for a surcharge. Additional property amenities include a concierge desk, gift shops/newsstands, and express check out. This is a smoke free property. Guestrooms. 387 air conditioned guestrooms at Savannah Marriott Riverfront feature coffee/tea makers and complimentary newspapers. Beds come with down comforters and premium bedding. Bathrooms feature complimentary toiletries and hair dryers. Wired high speed and wireless Internet access is available for a surcharge. Guestrooms offer phones. 27 inch plasma televisions have premium cable channels and pay movies. Rooms also include electronic check out, irons/ironing boards, and clock radios. Housekeeping is offered daily and guests may request refrigerators.
The conference will kick off on Sunday night, July 28th, with an evening welcome mixer. The conference will conclude with a farewell dinner dance on Wednesday evening, July 31st. You won’t want to miss any part of the conference, so please plan accordingly.
There is so much to do in Savannah, making it a great family vacation destination. So many families have said staying in the same hotel as the conference and with the other families is critical for your "Conference Experience", so please reserve your room early. Transportation to and from Airport
Discounted rates have been secured with a shuttle service for transportation from/to the airport and from/to the Marriott. The link is attached below. The shuttle leaves the airport hourly beginning at 10 am and ending at 9 pm. It leaves the Marriott hourly beginning at 5 am and ending at 7 pm. The standard rates are $20 per person one way, and $30 per person round trip. The rates for our attendees will be $17.50 for an individual reservation one way, and $25 for an individual reservation round trip (the website will only deduct the $2.50/$5.00 once per reservation, regardless of how many people are on the reservation). Although a bit timely, it may be worthwhile for a party of 4, for example, to make 4 separate reservations, one for each family member. Of note, there is only room for one wheelchair-dependent passenger per shuttle. So, K Shuttle has asked that anyone in a wheelchair make that clear when making a reservation. Corporate Kids will be providing the childcare for this year's conference. We will be having a hang out space for kids (age 13 and up) that will be supervised by Corporate Kids. In addition to the regular childcare areas, there will be a supervised hang-out space for teens and young adults (age 13 and up). It will be a place where the kids can sign themselves in and out (with their parents' permission).
There will also be a time when the affected kids ages 9-16 will be pulled out of daycare for special "ice breaker activities" as well as another time where the sibs (ages 6-12) will be pulled out of daycare for their own "ice breaker" activities.
