Susi Burdick Memorial Scholarship Application 2017 

Rainier Chamber Foundation Merit Scholarship

Academic Year 2017-2018

 The Rainier Chamber Foundation believes it is important to acknowledge the accomplishments of high achieving young people. The intent of this scholarship is to identify and reward Southeast Seattle residents who are exhibiting community leadership qualities. This program is designed to assist outstanding high school students with a portion of their college education. Applicants are free to apply for government-sponsored, need-based financial aid which will not affect the receipt of the Rainier Chamber Foundation Scholarship. 

Eligibility: High School Seniors residing in and attending high school in Southeast Seattle.

High Schools include: Franklin, Cleveland, Rainier Beach and South Lake.

District boundaries: To the north: Jackson St.  To the south: Skyway (included). To the west: I-5.  To the east: Lake Washington.

Award Amount: $4,000 (up to three awards)

These awards are based on the following:

  • Academic Progress & Accomplishments
  • School Involvement & Dedication
  • Community Service & Engagement

Application Guidelines:

  1. Eligibility for application is based on the student’s intent to enroll as a full time undergraduate at a college of their choice.
  2.  The award is a grant of up to three awards of $4,000 to apply towards tuition for academic year 2017-2018.
  3.  The application and required information must be completed and returned to the Rainier Chamber Foundation, 5290 Rainier Ave. S, Seattle, WA 98118.  
  4.  Applications must be postmarked by Monday, April 10, 2017.  Incomplete applications will be rejected.  Applicant can contact Rainier Chamber office with questions: 206.725.2010.  No extensions given.
  5.  Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, April 28, 2017.
  6. To be considered, applicants will submit: 
  • Listing a summary of your accomplishments, such as: Honors or Awards, Offices or Positions, School and Community Activities and/or work experience; presented in a RÉSUMÉ format.
  • Applicant’s statement: Max 500 words stating applicant’s educational goals and summarizing applicant’s qualifications.
  • High School Transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation.

 Obligations of Recipients:

 Award recipients must provide a letter or email showing proof of college enrollment and student identification number in order to have funds released.  Letter or email must also include the appropriate college department and address where funds will be sent.  Contact for the Rainier Chamber Foundation Scholarship Fund: mail@rainierchamber.com or 206.725.2010.

 Funds for the Rainier Chamber Foundation Scholars will be deposited into the student’s account at the college/university which they are enrolled.

 Recipients continue their connection with the Rainier Chamber Foundation and update their email and phone number once their begin college. 

 Each year, the Scholarship Fund depends on the testimonials and updates from previous winners.  By January 2018, recipients will send a video or written statement about their college experience and how the Scholarship has helped them.  This helps us raise funds for future recipients. 

 Former recipients are also invited to future fundraisers and activities so we can stay updated on your progress and to help you with connections and internships.  In December 2017, you are invited to a Tutta Bella pizza party to update us on your progress and compare experiences with the other recipients.
