"If you want to see the real Guatemala, this is the trip for you! Nice accomadations, very good food, but being taken to villages, learning how to make tortillas in a woman's house, and seeing the women weave the wonderful textiles in their homes-this you don't get on a regular tour!  And seeing the effects of our help supporting girls in school, that was very gratifying."  Stina Pope 2014 participant

"I feek privileged to have been a part of a group that toured Guatemala with the Katheri Tekakwitha Fund.  Kay Sweeney is an exellent resource for finding comfortable lodging, transportation, and seting up meetings with the women who have completed the program.  It was an experience that I will never forget! On Tuesday, we will travel by van to Tecpan Guatemala to visit the village of three of our former students with a possible stop at the school where Myrna Santelel, one of our graduates teaches. At one of our stops, we will make cascarones used for the traditional carnival celebration at the start of Lent.   Time permiting, we will visit the Mayan ruins, Iximche.   Lunch will be in a local restaurant.  We will travel  in the late afternoon to Pananjachel where we will stay at the Hotel Utz Jay meaning a good place in Kaquichel. On Thursday, we will travel from Panajachel to Santa Clara la Laguna and visit with the Mujeres Clarenses, our project there.  We will lunch with young women who are graduates of our program and have a chance to talk with them about what they are doing now.   In the afternoon, we will return to Pananjachel to the Hotel Utz Jay.  The evening will be free to explore the restaurants and handicraft shops in Panajachel.
