New Part 9 Residential and Commercial Energy Requirements

  • Especially effect on doors and commercial glazing
  • What compliance paths are most likely for residential projects?
  • Are there commercial projects that would be designed to the prescriptive/tradeoff/performance requirements, or would they be handled under NECB?
  • Can available residential and commercial products meet required U-values?
  • If commercial under NECB, what U-values are required?
  • How do you demonstrate U-values for code compliance?
  • Have you simulated your sloped glazing products? At what size?
  • Labels – how to understand them
  • Example calculation

Speakers - Murray Frank (Constructive Home Solutions) and Kevin Saito (Quality Audting Institute)

Don't Get Hosed - What You Need to Know About Jobsite Water Testing

  • “Know your rights”: What the test standard requires: calibrated equipment, proper procedure, complete test reports, personnel training
  • What is the correct protocol? (Notification prior to test, opportunity to examine product installation/operation before testing)
  • Which definition of failure applies? ASTM, NAFS, or Canadian Supplement? (Leakage failure by product type, ex: sliding sash products)
  • How do you challenge a “failure” you think is unfair?
  • Who should be informed and present for the testing?
  • What percentage of product should be tested?  If a failure occurs, what are the next steps?

Speaker - Murray Frank (Constructive Home Solutions) and Kevin Saito (Quality Auditing Institute)

Commercial and Residential Guard Rail Design—Problems and Solutions

  • You’ve designed the middle of the rail. Great. What about the ends?
  • Existing design guidelines—is something missing?
  • Engineering vs. testing
  • Code requirements, engineers, and building officials
  • Where do we go from here?
