NEFLIN Academic Libraries Interest Group: Online (05/08/17)

Academic libraries have changed in countless ways in the last few years.  We were once the gate-keepers to all knowledge (I really do believe that!), but we now find ourselves competing with multiple sources of information, some not quite as reliable as our students believe.  I hope this Interest Group will be collaborative, that the topics we explore will help us become better librarians and perhaps even better people.  As the group’s facilitator, I want to hear from you; what do YOU want to discuss?  What concerns do you have?  How can we help each other?  As a starting point, I would like to discuss the status of academic librarians as faculty.  What do you think?  Let me know!!!  We’re all in this together, and I’m excited to get started.

Facilitator: Victoria M. McGlone, PhD, Florida State College at Jacksonville

Victoria has been a librarian for 27 years, nearly all of those years in academic libraries.  She earned an M.S. in Information Studies from Drexel University, and a Ph.D. in Education from Capella University.  Victoria has worked at Florida State College at Jacksonville for 17 years.  Her interests include reading (of course), traveling, crocheting, stained glass, and binge-watching really bad television series.  She loves being a librarian and making a positive difference every day.

Co-Facilitator: Tia Esposito, Jacksonville University

Tia Esposito is the Emerging Technology Librarian at Jacksonville University. She is a published author who has presented internationally on using mobile technology to cultivate active learning of information literacy skills including the Librarian’s Information Literacy Association Conference (LILAC) at Caledonia University in Glasgow, Scotland and many other conferences such as FACRL and NEFLIN.  Her area of expertise is electronic resources and digital libraries especially as they pertain to Academic Libraries.

Cost: NEFLIN Interest Groups are free of charge and are open to NEFLIN members only.  Registration is strongly encouraged.
