Course Description:
Participants will explore the importance of using assessments in Early Education Settings. Through presentation, discussion and small group activities, participants will learn to differentiate between screenings and assessments, what information can be gathered when observing children, how to gather and document information, maintain objectivity when interpreting data and how to use the information gained through observation to plan Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum.
Course Objectives:
1. Explain the importance of observations and documentation;
2. Differentiate between screenings and assessments;
3. Describe what an assessment can tell you about a child;
4. Use techniques and strategies to objectively observe children;
5. Use information gained through observation to plan curriculum for individual and whole group activities;
6. Explain the three key components of Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum
