SPEAKER:
ABSTRACT: The fun part of any project is when we get to be creative and test the limits of our engineering capabilities. But having the freedom to innovate requires negotiating a contract that allows all parties—ourselves and our clients—to be protected from unnecessary risk. This presentation offers insider tips for negotiating contract provisions by focusing on the needs and concerns of the client. By taking this vantage point, engineers can more easily engage with clients around difficult contract language and find a path to mutually agreeable terms. This presentation is being made available to local Geo-Institute groups through a cooperative effort between the G-I and the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA) to advance the groups’ mutual interests in confronting risk, optimizing performance and presenting technical topics with the geotechnical profession.
BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Rick Smith is a Senior Associate with GBA-member firm McMillen Jacobs Associates in Seattle, Wshington. He is a member of GBA’s External Relations committee, whose mission is to identify, coordinate, and engage alliances and influencers to promote geoprofessionals’ importance and value to the marketplace.
