When disasters strike in the United States and its Territories with the effeect of overwhelming local and state resources, the Federal Government has a range of emergency support functions that provide rapid and sustained response to the needs of communities. Medical needs are provided by the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) and include psychological care. Psychological care is especially important as the impact from a disaster is much greater than the physical impact.

About the Presenter:
Dave Marks, MS, LCPC: Dave is the owner of a group psychotherapy practice in Park Ridge, IL where he sees clients for trauma and anxiety disorders, depression and other mental health issues. Previously he worked in a Fortune 50 corporation as an internal EAP supervisor. Mr. Marks has been with the NDMS since 2004, deploying with the Hurricane Katrina response in 2005.
