 Coastal Speaker Series:
Growing Oysters and Restoring the Coast,
"The Incredible, Not Just Edible, Oyster"

Wednesday, February 11, 2015
7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center
Wrightsville Beach Historic Square

Join the Coastal Federation on February 11 for the inaugural event of the 2015 Coastal Speakers Series at the Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center in Wrightsville Beach.  Jay Styron, owner of Carolina Mariculture Company, will share stories and tips on growing oysters through his small, family owned oyster farm, located on Cedar Island.  Jay will also discuss oyster aquaculture efforts and opportunities in North Carolina. Ted Wilgis, an oyster biologist, will provide some background on the history of the oyster in North Carolina, why oysters keep our estuaries healthy, and how we can all help to restore our oyster reefs.  Jay and Ted will also provide a hands-on lesson in opening (and tasting!) our local native oyster.

The event is FREE for federation members and a suggested $10 donation for nonmembers. You can register for this event online below or in-person at the Coastal Education Center. Donations can be made in-person at the Coastal Education Center on the night of the event or in advance. All proceeds will benefit the federation's education programming.

Visit the Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center in Wrightsville Beach throughout the year to hear marvelous speakers bring to life their coastal experiences, tour the center, and experience the beauty of the coast through our Coastal Adventures series. You can find out more and register for any event online at www.nccoast.org or in-person at the Center. For more information contact Ted Wilgis at tedw@nccoast.org or call 910.509.2838.
