Transformation of Canadian Agriculture: The Opportunity in Plant-based Foods, Fuels, and Biomass

Murad Al-Katib, President and CEO, AGT

As the world moves towards a population of 10 billion by 2050, Canada’s abundance of arable land and water will create a generational opportunity for Canadian agriculture. The three crop rotation of cereals, oilseeds, and pulses in Western Canada provides a unique opportunity to meet the growing demand for sustainable protein for humans, renewable fuels, and opportunities to utilize biomass in innovative ways including renewable energy. This presentation will explore this transformation and examine the challenges and opportunities in this growth area.

About Murad

Murad Al-Katib founded AGT Foods in 2001, building a Canadian startup into a global billion-dollar value-added foods and ingredients company. Among other board positions, he serves as Chair of the Government of Canada’s National Agri-Food Strategy Roundtable. He is also the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the 2017 Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the honouree of the 2017 “Oslo Business for Peace”, and EY’s 2017 “World Entrepreneur of the Year.”
