Are You Ready For Take Off?
A Small Business Seminar

There is no formula that can guarantee that your new business will succeed.  However, based on SCORE’s experience with countless clients over many years, we believe there are things you can do now to improve the odds of your new business thriving.

This workshop we will outline what you will need to know about marketing, finance, competition, business planning, business legal entities and risk management to gain this edge and where you can seek assistance when you need it. Each of these topics could easily constitute the subject of a full day workshop.  Think of this seminar as the table of contents for the book of knowledge that you will want to read in depth as you go forward.

This workshop is being sponsored by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library and hosted by the Cascade Park Community Library branch.

About the course leader: Albert Gold, PhD

Albert Gold was born into a family of small business entrepreneurs. Hoping to extract himself from that lifestyle he earned a PhD in Physics and became a university professor for a decade. However, then and later he maintained interests in family businesses and in his own consulting and real estate ventures. He subsequently fell from grace and into university and institutional administration.

During the 1980’s he operated a consultancy focused on spinning technology start-up companies out of university and nonprofit laboratories and provided guidance to them in their early stages. Several of these have prospered. Since his formal retirement from Harvard University in 2003 Dr. Gold has largely devoted himself to pro bono consulting activities. He joined SCORE in 2006. He has also been a volunteer consultant and board member of the Executive Service Corps of New England (ESC) in Boston, MA. He has served as a director of University Patents, Inc., Scientific Calculations, Inc. and Image Data Corporation. In the nonprofit world he’s has been on the boards of Cheshire Academy, the Convent of the Sacred Heart (NY), the Powers Music School, the New England Personality Disorder Association, ESC of New England, the Nevada Museum of Art, the Soaring Society of America Foundation, the Siena Village Condominium Trust, and the MIT Soaring Association.
