Meher Baba's 1952 Car Accident Near Prague, Oklahoma

Meher Mount Is the Cross-Country Destination

When Meher Baba and His party left Myrtle Beach by car on May 20, 1952, to drive across the country, their destination was Ojai, California.  They were to spend 10 days at Meher Mount.

Meher Baba had already sent ahead five of the men mandali who had arrived at Meher Mount to assist Agnes Baron in preparing for the visit.

Meher Baba's Accident on the Way to Meher Mount

On May 24, west of Prague, Oklahoma, the car carrying Meher Baba and four of His close women disciples met with an accident causing severe injuries.  They never reached Meher Mount.   The story of what happened when Agnes Baron and the five mandali members received the news of Meher Baba's accident is part of the program.

A Necessary Accident

The program also includes a discussion of the accident and Meher Baba's comments regarding the necessity of the accident in America.

Meher Baba later released a statement: "The personal disaster, for some years foretold by me, at last happened...  It was necessary that it should happen in America. God willed it so."  (Lord Meher, p. 3856, Vol. 11)

A Commemoration and Remembrance

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, Meher Mount and the Avatar Meher Baba Center of Southern California (Meherabode) are co-sponsoring a special 60th Anniversary Day of Remembrance of Meher Baba's 1952 Accident.  The event will be at Meher Mount, and all are welcome.
