On the heels of this summer's successful i.e.* launch event comes a whole new way of looking at things -- SHOP CLASS, a six-week intentional mashup of innovative thinkers, innovative doers and curious bystanders.

SHOP CLASS is designed to take the ambitions of i.e.* one step further, blurring the lines between creator and creative minded.

Organized and hosted by Peter Fraser, Ansel Olson and John Sarvay, each SHOP CLASS session is designed to be a two-hour, hands-on discovery zone centered in the historic Marvin Lang Building (next to the Camel on West Broad Street).

We're creating the container, the invitation, the rough design. We're inviting a dozen #RVA creatives to provide the content, the passion and their unique perspective. We're inviting you to shape, influence and imprint each evening with their own sensibilities.

SIX THURSDAYS, STARTING AUGUST 4*

08.04 SHOP CLASS: STONE SOUP

Join Chef Ellie Basch – formerly of Savor and The Lunch Porter – as she takes us on a journey through the intersection of local food and creative cooking. Participants are asked to bring one local food item (one tomato, or one cucumber, etc.) with them to contribute. REGISTER FOR THE AUGUST 4 SESSION.

08.11 SHOP CLASS: YOUR CREATIVE BONES

Noah Scalin will deliver a simple system for generating more creative energy in life and work. Based on his own yearlong Skull-A-Day project and the benefits he gained from this daily practice, as well as his other creative ventures. Noah will lead you on a fun hands-on exercise that will stoke your internal creative fires. REGISTER FOR THE AUGUST 11 SESSION.

08.18 SHOP CLASS: IT DON'T MEAN A THING

Composer and orchestrator Samson Trinh will bring the stylings of his Upper East Side Big Band to Marvin Lang as he engaged the SHOP CLASS crowd in an exploration of music innovation anchored around his approach of reconfiguring contemporary rock music in big band style. REGISTER FOR THE AUGUST 18 SESSION. (Samson's Mills Family Band is performing at The Camel after SHOP CLASS.)

08.25 SHOP CLASS: WORDS & EXPRESSIONS

It’s all about language tonight, as two of #RVA's finest wordsmiths put participants through their paces with pen in hand. Meghan Codd and Deanna Lorianni of Zuula Consulting will explore our personal languages of innovation and creativity, and challenging the group to shift their perspectives, try on a new vocabulary, practice a different voice – individually and collectively. REGISTER FOR THE AUGUST 25 SESSION.

09.01 SHOP CLASS: SCAVENGE & SCULPT

Your hosts turn into your sculpture professors. Ansel, John and Peter put the SHOP CLASS crew through their paces as informally organized teams are give a handful of cash, a shopping assignment and a goal of building a physical homage to #RVA creativity. For all of you Art Foundation grads – yes, there will be a group crit to end the night! REGISTER FOR THE SEPTEMBER 1 SESSION.

09.08 SHOP CLASS: BREATHE DESIGN

Bring your yoga mat and a towel (it might be hot, even in September), and join designer Lauren Boynton and yogi Kelly Trask as they lead us through an exploration of yoga as a metaphor for design and creativity. Wear comfortable clothes and come prepared to stretch – on several levels! REGISTER FOR THE SEPTEMBER 8 SESSION.

*Because of space limitations, we're asking that participants attend no more than two of the six sessions.
