Anxiety is on the rise in children and teens, surpassing the level of stress reported by adults. No longer just a matter of worry about grades and future success, kids and teens are worried about the news, the climate, school shootings, discrimination, bullying, and social media pressures. The stress these factors generate impacts all facets of life: social connectedness, academic performance, sleep, and overall health and well-being. As a result, worry and stress management is not a luxury, it’s a crucial skill all children and teens need to master to manage the challenges of life. With these skills in hand, kids can overcome obstacles, break the cycle of toxic stress, take charge of their lives and thrive—but they need our help.

Workshop Objectives
At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to

• Identify three factors contributing to children’s and teens increased stress
• List four strategies to implement with children and teens to reduce stress and anxiety
• Describe four strategies to implement with parents to support a stress-reduced homelife and expectations for kids
