Yoga for Depression & Anxiety

An abundance of research indicates that yoga and meditation are effective tools for alleviating both anxiety and depression. Participants in this seminar will be instructed on the skills gleaned from yoga philosophy to stop emotional suffering and discover the choice to be free. Specific postures and breath work will be explained and practiced. A regular yoga practice allows us to reconnect with our true nature and remember who we truly are beneath our current mood.

Instructor

Nancy McPartland, LCSW-c, MS in counseling, E-RYT

Nancy's passion for yoga began in 1989, and she became a teacher in the Iyengar tradition through Columbia Yoga center in 1996. Since that time, she has completed two master’s degrees, in psychology and social work. She first began integrating the tools that she learned from yoga in her outpatient family therapy practice after she received the Radiant Child Teacher Training in 1999. That same year Nancy had the privilege of participating in a teacher training in Anusara Yoga, and has been "flowing with grace" since that time. In 2006 she joined Kim Manfredi's Vinyasa style teacher training as a way to restore emotional balance after the birth of her third child. Nancy knew that in order to truly appreciate the health benefits of yoga she needed to be immersed in the practice. In her private practice she uses yoga as a tool toward the advancement of mental health via exploring the emotional benefits of the postures. Students are assisted in building connections between themselves and the divine goodness that resides in each one of us, thus releasing their unlimited potential. In 2010, Nancy was certified as an aerial yoga teacher with Jayne Bernasconi. In 2011, Nancy began her studies in Usui and Karuna Reiki with Bonnie Tarantino. In 2012, she completed her reiki mastership in India with Bonnie and received her most recent certification from the Paramanand Institute in Indore India in yoga therapy.
