“Identifying Oral Pathology, and Long Term Care of Dental Implant Patients” (3 Units) 

Increase your ability to recognize a variety of soft tissue lesions and determine when it’s acceptable to monitor vs. refer to the specialist for biopsy/removal.

  •  Learn how to identify common varieties of soft tissue pathology
  •  Review the anatomy of hard tissue pathology: odontogenic infections, cysts, and tumors
  •  Cone Beam computed tomography (CBCT) indications, review image reconstruction planes, normal anatomy, surgical findings and pathologic findings
  •  Learn to determine when it’s okay to monitor vs. referring for a biopsy

Learn to recognize the warning signs that indicate a dental implant is not healthy.

  • Understand the reasons for dental implant failures
  • Evaluate patient risk factors to increase implant outcomes
  • Learn the important aspects of dental implant maintenance

Doctors Leonard Tyko, Christopher Daniel and Jason Rogers are remarkably accomplished oral and maxillofacial surgeons. They bring particular expertise in tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, sinus lifts, oral pathology and corrective jaw surgery.

“Dental Care for the Pregnant Patient” (1 Unit)

  • Understand the risks of periodontal disease in pregnancy and explain why oral health is a critical component of prenatal care
  • Describe normal physiologic changes in pregnancy that effect oral health
  • Recognize and treat common pregnancy related pathology affecting the mouth
  • Respond to common pregnancy misconceptions and myths as related to oral and dental health

About the speaker

Elizabeth Smith, CNM, MSN is a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Elizabeth received her undergraduate education at Grinnell College and her Master’s Degree and nurse-midwifery training at Vanderbilt University. She relocated to Northern California in 1998 and has practiced full scope nurse midwifery in a variety of settings over the last 20 years. In 2014, Elizabeth became the Director and Owner of the Santa Rosa Birth Center, a licensed and accredited birth center that provides hospital and birth center birth, prenatal care, and comprehensive women’s health care for the families of Sonoma County.
