4 out of 5 Native women have experienced violence - 56% of that being sexual violence. In New Mexico, Native women and children experience sexual violence at some of the highest rates. This one-and-a-half-day training, geared for victim advocates, service providers and law enforcement working with Native victims of sexual violence, will explore the dynamics of sexual violence in NM tribal communities. Other topics include

  • Child Sexual Abuse: Warnings Signs & Response
  • Community Readiness for Offender Re-entry
  • AcuDetox for Survivors of Sexual Assault.

Attendees will deepen their understanding of child sexual abuse and the experiences of Native victims, identify and understand strategies for working with Native victims to facilitate trust and communication, identify and promote culturally-appropriate victim services and identify and promote healthy healing strategies with Native victims of sexual violence.
