Every year Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center honors two people who are committed to advocating for immigrant rights in the Borderland. This year, we will be honoring El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar and Reverend Dr. Robert Mosher. In addition to honoring our Border Heroes, we'll be celebrating our 30th Anniversary with delicious food by Around the World Catering and lively music from Carombola during an uplifting evening.

County Judge Veronica Escobar is a native El Pasoan who has contributed to the betterment of the community her entire adult life. She has been a strong advocate for expanding access to affordable healthcare for El Pasoans through her support of the El Paso County Hospital District as well as El Paso Children’s Hospital. Judge Escobar has also focused on modernizing county government through significant internal reforms to the organization that make it more efficient and responsive to constituents. She has also been active in addressing issues important to Border communities and has written about border policy for the New York Times. Judge Escobar has been the recipient of the “Women of Integrity” award given by Women for an Ethical El Paso (2007), the “2008 Elected Official of the Year” Award given by the National Association of Social Workers (Texas Chapter, El Paso Branch), the "Human Rights Safe Communities" award given by the Border Network for Human Rights (2009), and the "2010 Elected Official of the Year" presented to her by the Rio Grande Council of Governments, and the TAMACC 2014 Women of Distinction Award.

Reverend Dr. Robert Edward Mosher, SSC is director of the Columban Mission Center in El Paso, Texas, which provides mission immersion experiences for people from around the world. A priest of the Missionary Society of St. Columban, Father Mosher was ordained in 1982 and spent nearly 30 years in pastoral work in working-class areas of Santiago, Chile. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, and a Master of Divinity at Weston School of Theology. The Gregorian University in Rome granted him a Doctor of Missiology degree in 1995. Father Mosher serves on the Board of Directors of ECO-El Paso, an organization of green companies and ecological organizations. He is a founding member of the El Paso and Southern New Mexico Interfaith Clergy Alliance, and helped found the Detained Migrant Solidarity Committee. Father Mosher teaches a variety of courses at the Tepeyac Institute of the Diocese of El Paso.
