Success with Nonprofit Volunteers

Learn how to recruit, motivate and retain volunteers for your nonprofit

The class can be taken stand alone or as part of continuing education credit workshops titled, “Non Profit Resource Development”. To learn more, please contact Mary Anne Burke at www.maburke1@sbcglobal.net . This is a great opportunity to increase your skills in the nonprofit world and to add to your resume. For ceu credit you will need to take two additional classes: Grant Writing Workshop and Grant Writing II and Fundraising Workshop.

Volunteers is a two-hour workshop for nonprofit staff and leaders and newcomers in nonprofit businesses. The focus of this presentation supports nonprofit startups and staff and leadership of existing nonprofits. This is a popular class so please sign up early. Excellent learning experience for all nonprofit staff.

As nonprofit staff funding becomes scarce, the need for a well trained and informed volunteer staff is essential to meet labor shortage needs and support added services. The simplified process for recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers is based on a book titled Recruiting Volunteers: A Guide for Non-Profits by Mary Ann Burke and Carl Liljenstolpe.

You will learn how to:

  • Reassess your use of volunteers
  • Identify new functional roles for volunteers
  • Consider innovative recruiting strategies
  • Design a comprehensive volunteer training
  • Create ongoing volunteer evaluations
  • Cross-train volunteers for leadership

Learning Outcomes

  • Evaluate how you can use volunteers in your organization
  • Clarify your organization’s mission and use of volunteers
  • Identify how to use volunteers in various capacities
  • Understand volunteer recruitment strategies
  • Increase your use of volunteers in new leadership roles

You will be asked if you want to take 2 additional classes and do 4 hours of homework to get a Unit of Continuing Education Credit from San Jose State put on by SCORE. The CEU focus and the workshops is on “nonprofit resource development” A strong emphasis will be placed on grant writing and nonprofit collaboration and fundraising.
