Adult ADHD and Problem Gambling: A Hidden Disorder
Research indicates a disproportionate number of problem gamblers also meet diagnostic criteria for adult ADHD. There are unique aspects of this comorbidity that can be challenging for behavioral health providers. In this presentation, Dr. Reid will discuss assessment and differential diagnostic issues for ADHD, vulnerability factors, treatment, and how aspects of mindfulness can help attenuate both ADHD and gambling problems. The latest findings from the scientific literature about ADHD and neuroscience will also be addressed. Finally, Dr. Reid will offer pragmatic solutions and empirically supported interventions for problem gamblers with ADHD.
§ Participants will learn about the common denominators that link adult ADHD and gambling disorders including insights from research using neuroimaging and the brain.
