AASB’s Fall Boardsmanship Academy
If you are a District Leader or School Board Member, please plan to stay on for the Association of Alaska School Board’s (AASB’s) Fall Boardsmanship Academy, which will be September 21-22 in Anchorage. This will be a great opportunity for attendees to continue conversations from the Safety Summit with other School Board Members and District Leaders from around the state, and hone your skills in advocacy, and hear the latest updates around a number of education topics. School Districts will be sent registration information for this separately. Call AASB at 907-463 -1660 for more information.
Educational leaders, key staff, and strategic stakeholders, including representation from every district across the state will convene to improve school safety in Alaska by both learning and sharing methods to: promote healthy development through trauma-engaged and restorative practices, improve school climate, and be better prepared for any possible school crisis.

The Summit aims to strengthen:
Positive school climate. Trauma-engaged practice. Supported mental health. Safe schools.
The Summit objectives advance the Alaska Education Challenge and include the following:
Learning topics include: restorative practices, positive school climate, suicide prevention, counseling and mental health, social emotional learning, trauma-engaged practices, school safety, safety related district plans and policies, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and the Alaska Safe Children's Act. Plus more!
Key 2019 Summit sessions include but are not limited to, family engagement; safe, equitable, engaging schools; integration of cultural consideration; educator self-care; threat assessment; leadership strategies; and the science of learning. Sessions support districts' integration of the Transforming Schools: A Framework for Trauma-engaged Schools in Alaska.District teams may include a maximum of 6 Superintendent-approved team members; Alternative Schools maximum not included in that total. Alternative Schools may include a maximum of 3 Principal-approved team members.
