"Teaching in the Ambulatory Setting"

Workshop goals:
- To increase teaching efficacy and effectiveness in the ambulatory setting
- To improve the “timeliness” of teaching and feedback in the educational setting

- Summarize 4 key aspects of adult learning theory and be able to discuss how they apply to teaching in the ambulatory setting
- Demonstrate use of the “one minute preceptor” and at least one other teaching method to do targeted teaching directed at the learner’s needs in a role play related to an ambulatory setting
- Differentiate feedback from evaluation and practice giving feedback to improve clinical performance
Session description:
Workshop will include a practical overview of adult learning theory, and a review of useful teaching models designed for settings where time is limited. Participants will have an opportunity for small group role plays with the chance to demonstrate use of the “one minute preceptor” along with at least one additional teaching model. We will then review feedback techniques to improve clinical performance.
