Buck is a powerful memoir of how a precocious kid educated himself through the most unconventional teachers—outlaws and eccentrics, rappers and mystic strangers, ghetto philosophers and strippers, and, eventually, The Crefeld School where he transformed his life with a single blank sheet of paper. It’s a one-of-a-kind story about finding your purpose in life, and an inspiring tribute to the power of art.

MK Asante is a bestselling author, award-winning filmmaker, hip-hop artist, and a tenured professor of creative writing and film at Morgan State University who CNN calls “a master storyteller and major creative force.” The author of four celebrated books, Asante is a recipient of the Langston Hughes Award. Asante directed The Black Candle, a Starz movie he co-wrote with Maya Angelou who also narrates the prize-winning film.

Asante graduated from The Crefeld School in 2000.
