Pauline Yu has been President of the American Council of Learned Societies since July 2003. From 1994-2003 she served as Dean of Humanities in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures. She received her B.A. in History and Literature from Harvard University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Stanford University. She has written numerous books and articles on classical Chinese poetry, comparative literature, and issues in the humanities and was awarded the William Riley Parker prize by Modern Language Association in 2007. Dr. Yu is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and an elected member of the American Philosophical Society and the Committee of 100; she is on the Academy's national Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences. She is a trustee of the National Humanities Center, the American Academy in Berlin, and the Asian Cultural Council and is a member of the Scholars' Council of the Library of Congress. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Teagle Foundation and of the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange. Dr. Yu is an Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University.
