A Historic Opportunity to Meet Anne Frank's Stepsister,

Eva Schloss

The Tennessee Holocaust Commission (THC) would love for you to join us at the  Knoxville Civic Auditorium on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. for a historic opportunity to meet and hear from Anne Frank's stepsister, Eva Schloss.

In 1938, the German Nazi’s invaded Austria and 8 year-old Eva  Geiringer and her family had to flee the country to avoid persecution. They moved first to Belgium and then to Holland where one of her neighbors, Anne Frank, was a German Jewish girl of the same age. The girls became fast friends and playmates. Both girls and their families were forced into hiding in Holland and after some time both families were betrayed, captured, and sent to concentration camps. Only Eva and her mother survived. Although Anne Frank did not survive, her diary did.  After the war, Eva's mother and Anne's father decided to get married making Eva Otto Frank's stepdaughter and Anne Frank's stepsister.

Eva has recounted her wartime experiences in over 1,000 speaking engagements for Holocaust education and to promote global peace. She has written two books and has had a play written about her life. Her story is difficult to imagine, but her insightful message reminds us that life is precious and fragile, and the power of good is immeasurable and love makes a difference.

This event is open to middle and high school educators and students.
