Saturday, February 2, 2013

FMST Logo

Join us at FMST's Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

We've planned a fun and fast-paced agenda to help you learn more about trail progress, future projects and how you can get involved.

The agenda includes:

  • Progress reports on building the trail
  • A keynote presentation by North Face ultrarunner Diane Van Deren who completed the MST in 2012. Diane is a great speaker with an inspiring life story, and her adventures on the MST have brought national attention to the trail (see National Geographic's bucket list) and helped Great Outdoor Provision Co. raise $40,000 for the MST. Thanks to Great Outdoor Provision Co. for sponsoring Diane's trip and speech to the annual meeting.
  • A workshop for people interested in learning how to hike the trail
  • A workshop for trail volunteers
  • A hike on the new trail in Saxapahaw with an update on progress on building the MST along the Haw River
  • Awards for hikers who have completed the trail and for outstanding volunteers
  • Opportunities for you to ask questions and share your views
  • A fun meeting location on the future route of the MST!
  • A delicious lunch!

The meeting will be in the historic mill in Saxapahaw, which was featured in an article in The New York Times' travel section. The meeting, including lunch, will be in the Haw River Ballroom. Afternoon workshops will be in the ballroom and at the adjacent Hawbridge School.

Lunch will be catered by the Cafe at the Saxapahaw General Store - a restaurant that receives rave reviews for its delicious food made from local produce and meats.

This meeting is a great way to learn about the MST and about how you can get more involved in our work.

The meeting costs $15 for FMST members and $10 for members who are students. Non-members who are interested in attending are encouraged to join FMST for $25.

RSVPS are required by Tuesday, January 29.
