Raleigh Rolling View - MST Birthday Hike

We will be covering Segment 10 legs 11-13. Leg 11 starts at Rolling view (graveyard on R outside entrance booth to the campground; VERY SMALL parking lot is on the left just before graveyard if you are heading towards the campground. This leg of the trail is 3.8 miles to leg 12@ NC 98 and Lick creek. There is a gravel area along 98 (almost directly across from the airplane on hwy 98) to park cars at this location if you only want to hike this far. From here it is 1.6 miles to the next leg where cars can be parked. Coming from Durham you would make a left at Boyce Mill Road which is right before Hope Reins horse stables (if you are coming from Wake Forest, you would make a right onto Boyce Mill Road just after Hope Reins); go down as far as you can to where the trail is roped off and park there. Thus begins the final leg - #13 that goes to HWY 50 and is 5.6 miles to the end point where some cars will need to park to shuttle others back to the beginning parking lot. Total is 11 miles. Please coordinate your car parking needs and drop off your cars at the desired locations giving yourselves ample time to meet us at the starting point which is at the graveyard on the right just outside the entrance booth to Rollingview Campground. We will begin hiking promptly at 0930 so all car drop offs will need to be done prior to that; we will not wait longer than 5 minutes due to the number of participants and the length of the hike.

LOCATION: Middle of Falls Lake's southern shore

HIKE DESCRIPTION: Hike starts at Rolling View State Recreation Area where we will coordinate shuttle to park some cars at Highway 50. Total hike is 11 miles, point to point, but if some participants want to turn around for a shorter hike, they can. Beautiful area, many lake views and rolling hills.

HIKE LOGISTICS: This event is for adults only. Well behaved dogs are welcomed to join. Sorry, no children please. Bring plenty of water, sun and bug protection, lunch and snacks. This will be a leisurely hike. Time to sit by the water, take pictures, let the dogs play and hopefully see lots of wildlife. Woodpeckers are known to be the this area of the trail. If you feel this is too long of a hike, you can make plans to park car at end of each leg if needed. Rain or shine we WILL hike - exception: thunder and or lightening. Please keep an eye out for volunteers for the shuttle.
