Presented by the CCC Information Security Center and Accessibility Center, this twice-annual event is packed with information and techniques you can apply to your professional role. Workshop information is geared toward:

Workshop Agenda: Information Security, January 10

All session times are PST.

9:00 - 9:05 a.m.

Welcome (Aamir Khan, Director, CCC Information Security Center, and Jennifer Coleman, Executive Director, CCC Technology Center)

9:05 - 9:45 a.m.

Ransomware (Aamir Khan): We will address the growing problem of ransomware in the higher education sector and the best practices California's community colleges can use to defend against this type of cyber attack.

9:55 - 10:40 a.m.

Anti-Fraud Efforts in the CCC (Stephen Heath, CCC Chancellor's Office): Application and financial aid fraud continue to be an issue faced by the California Community Colleges. The Chancellor’s Office will give an update on the ever-evolving strategy to address this issue. Topics to be discussed include creating a holistic view of the strategy to combat fraud, current anti-fraud efforts, future efforts planning, and how to maintain equity while fighting fraud.

Social Engineering (Omer Usmani, Information Security Analyst, CCC Information Security Center): We will cover common types of social engineering methods - what they look like, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you suspect you've been targeted.

11:35 a.m - 12:30 p.m.

Splunk (Bryan Grant): This session will cover Splunk offerings that are available from the CCC Information Security Center and how colleges can leverage these. We will also discuss how to onboard data and what type of visibility you can gain.

12:30 - 1:00 p.m. - Lunch Break

1:05 - 1:45 p.m.

Implementing a Zero Trust Security Model (Dan Rojas): With the increasing mobile workforce and threat landscape, it is becoming more important to expand our security controls outside the traditional campus security perimeter. This session will provide an explanation of the Zero Trust security model, and how to use this architecture to secure your campus.

1:50 - 2:30 p.m.

Incident Response - Live Fire Walkthrough (Larry Suto): This session will go into the detail of handling a systemwide incident related to a compromise such as ransomware. Simulated ransomware will be used. Details on alerting, log analysis, containment, and recovery will be covered, as well as tools such as Velociraptor, log management, and data recovery.

2:35 - 3:15 p.m.

SSL Certificates (David Albrecht, Information Security Systems Engineer, CCC Technology Center): Topics will include what SSL certificates are, how they work, how much they typically cost, and how to get them for free through the InCommon Federation.

3:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Spirion (Aamir Khan & Spirion): This session will cover Spirion offerings that are available from the CCC Information Security Center and how colleges can leverage these to increase visibility and protection of enterprise data.

8:45 - 9:00 a.m.
Welcome and introduction

9:00 - 9:40 a.m.
The Distance Education Captioning and Transcription (DECT) Grant: Want to ensure that your instructor’s videos are accessible to all students with captions? Learn about the DECT grant. Thanks to the statewide Chancellor’s Office, DECT may be able to cover the costs of captioning for you.

9:50 - 10:20 a.m.
CCC TechConnect Accessibility Support: Join us for this 30-minute session and discover the types of accessibility support available through CCC TechConnect. We'll take you through our Zoom product to cover available transcription services for your online meetings, best practices, and touch on how to change accessibility settings. For our Cloud product we'll review post-event transcription services - what is offered, how to use, and what the requirements are. Please bring your questions! We'll leave time at the end for Q&A.

10:30 - 11:10 a.m.
Captioning Beyond Accommodations: This session will explore the wide array of benefits of captioning in higher education well beyond mandatory accommodations compliance, including but not limited to: Higher retention rates, meeting the legal guidelines, enhanced public relations, providing Universal Design for Learning. You will also be provided with resources to provide this most valuable tool in your content.

Captions, Subtitles & Transcripts: COVID distance learning required additional resources to make course content available to students who are deaf or with partial hearing loss. Learn more about the differences of each and resources for making multimedia more accessible.

11:50 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.
CCC Accessibility Center Update: Get an update on the CCC Accessibility Center, and resources and trainings that are available.

1:00 - 1:50 p.m.
Fresno City College's Journey to PDF Form Accessibility: In Fall 2020, Fresno City College began a project to make sure all electronic forms were Section 508-compliant. This led the college to create an accessibility training program for its employees. Join the team from Fresno City to discover how they started, what they did, and where they are now.

2:00 - 2:50 p.m.
Equidox vs Adobe Acrobat: Equidox is a web-based tool to assist in the remediation of PDFs. This session will provide an overview of its key features in comparison to Adobe Acrobat.

3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
eReading Battle Royale: What’s the difference between ePub and PDF? What software works with ePub? This session will compare eReading software features and usability with ePubs and PDFs, and cover ClaroRead, Read & Write, Kurzweil, and CaptiVoice.
