2018 NCMS Legislative Night

The Northern Colorado Medical Society is proud to present the 2018 NCMS Legislative Night to bring together northern Colorado legislators and physicians for an evening of dialogue on health care policy and solutions in the advocacy arena. Don't miss your opportunity for face-to-face dialogue with your elected officials! The event is open and free to all northern Colorado legislators, NCMS members and their guests. A plated dinner will be served; attendees have the option of meat (rocky river meatloaf with superfood salad and dessert) or vegan (grilled vegetable napoleon with cauliflower risotto, superfood salad and dessert).

In addition to the expected debates regarding Medicaid funding and operations, opioid addiction interventions and treatment, and other public health concerns,  we are certain that Colorado’s trial attorneys will be pressing their case to expand the value and frequency of medical malpractice suits, breach the records and activities of peer review committees, and impose other  new, creative causes of action under both the Medical Practice Act and medical liability statutes. Legislative Night on Oct. 10 is your opportunity to engage with state officials that will be casting votes on these critical issues.

Our engaging event will be moderated by Mathew Wynia, MD, MPH. Dr. Wynia’s career has included developing a research institute and training programs focusing on bioethics, professionalism and policy issues (the AMA Institute for Ethics) and founding the AMA’s Center for Patient Safety.

The following northern Colorado legislators have been invited. They have been asked by survey to choose the top three "hot topics in medicine" to discuss with their physician constituents during the "speed dating" portion of the event.

House representatives:

  • Rep. Steve Humphrey, HD 48 (Weld; Severance)
  • Rep. Perry Buck, HD 49 (Larimer/Weld; Loveland)
