NAATBatt returns on September 7-8, 2011 to the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky for its 2011 Annual Meeting and Conference. The title of this year's conference is "New Markets, New Innovation: The Next 5 Years in Advanced Batteries".
This year's meeting and conference will be a unique and innovative program that will examine some of the most important topics facing the U.S. advanced battery industry. The conference program will include:
1st Academic-Industry Advanced Battery Summit - Flash presentations by some of the leading university battery research programs in the United States will introduce the battery industry to some of the leading research programs in academia. The past few years have seen an explosion of interest in battery research in our universities. But most of this new research is still flying "below the radar". The Academic-Industry Summit will let companies see what is going on at some of our leading universities and allow attending companies to cherry pick some of the newest technologies and talent.
Second Use of EV Batteries - The conference will examine some of the latest thinking about the economics of reusing EV batteries and the possible implications of battery reuse for the industry. Panelists will talk about the conclusions of a recent DOE/Oak Ridge National Laboratory project looking at battery reuse, and representatives of General Motors and GE Capital will talk about possible business models. A panel will also examine the economics of Li-Ion battery recycling and its impact on the economics of EV battery design and reuse.
The Economics of Grid-Connected Distributed Energy Storage: A Debate - What conference is complete without a blood sport event? Over the past year, several organizations, including EPRI, Southern California Edison, Sandia National Laboratory, Lux Research and others have pubished white papers analyzing the economics of storing energy on the grid. Not all the papers are consistent and some of the conclusions are controversial. Experts will present, defend and debate the conclusions of those studies. You don't want to miss this panel!
New Developments in Traction Batteries and Distributed Storage Systems - Everyone knows that the energy density of advanced batteries needs to improve and the cost of advanced batteries needs to come down. Two panels will examine new technologies expected to come to market within the next 5 years that will make serious headway on these issues, both in automotive and smart grid applications.
Export Opportunities for U.S. Battery Manufacturers - Long product development cycles in domestic automotive and electric utility industries have proven a challenge for the U.S. advanced battery industry. Better short term market opportunities may lie in foreign markets where product development cycles are significantly shorter. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce and The Export-Import Bank will speak about export opportunities for U.S. advanced battery companies and several U.S. manufacturers will talk about what they are doing overseas and how they are doing it.
Kentucky Bourbon Tasting - Conference attendees will have a chance to taste and compare some of the top Kentucky bourbons at a networking reception on Thursday evening. Industry participants will not leave the conference without a host of new business contacts and a refined understanding of the subtleties of fine Kentucky bourbon liquor.
Remember: NAATBatt is an industry organization, not a for-profit conference organizer. Please support your industry and join your colleagues in Louisville for what will be the premier conference on the advanced battery market in the United States this year.
