NAATBatt International will hold its first educational program for the North American advanced battery industry at the new Kodak Battery Cell Assembly Center in Rochester, New York on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Kodak_s new cell assembly center The program, Advanced Battery Systems 101, will give new executives in the industry and other interested persons a basic understanding of advanced battery chemistries, battery cell design, battery cell manufacture, battery system design and battery testing protocols. NAATBatt hopes through this and future programs to enhance the quality of the advanced battery workforce and to support the growth of advanced battery manufacturing jobs and technologies in North America.

The course will include a tour of Kodak's new Battery Cell Assembly Center in Rochester. Attendees will have the opportunity to see first hand many of the processes and systems they will be learning about during the course. NAATBatt has assembled a world-class faculty of experienced battery executives from among its member companies to teach the course.

The Advanced Battery Systems 101 course is open to all registrants, though employees of NAATBatt member firms will receive a significant tuition discount and preference on registration. Part 1 will begin with a brief history of batteries and an introduction to the major battery chemistries. Both primary and secondary battery chemistries will be discussed.

Different cell types and the components that make up a battery cell will be reviewed, including the major cylindrical, pouch, prismatic, and button cell form factors.

A comparison of battery chemistries will be offered discussing the benefits and weaknesses of different chemistry options.

Part 2 will begin with a chemistry 101 introduction to how batteries operate

Near and medium-term improvements and technologies to current cell chemistries will be reviewed along with longer-term “beyond lithium” technologies

11:45               Advances in lead acid batteries (Paul Melichar, Enersys)

Near and medium-term improvements in lead-acid battery technology will be discussed together with their possible impact on the battery market

A brief overview of the process of developing new lithium-ion batteries
