The Power of Language

Language & employment success, really? Just like aspects of our life change, language adjusts as we learn. Dignity and respect within the use of language is a constant, and cultural customs are important. We’ll go over people first language, its origin, the power of words, and weigh in on terms we use in our work. Let’s talk about why this matters!

Training details:

  • Zoom room opens at 8:55am
  • Class starts at 9:00am
  • $30 for APSE members and $38 for others
  • Possible special introductory membrship rate, when signing up for this class (details below)
  • Earn 2 Continuing Education (CE) credits (provide email to receive certificate)

About C.J. Webb, Oregon APSE President and Person Centered Thinking Mentor Trainer

CJ's life changed when she learned to facilitate Personal Futures Plans. She learned the power of digging deeper and how the use of our language can facilitate, or create a hindrance, to moving forward, enjoying life, and doing work that makes you (and others) happy. C.J. has a degree in psychology with an emphasis on developmental psychology. She is a Person Centered Thinking Mentor Trainer. She has also provided Supported Employment Core Competency training prior to changing jobs to work for Vocational Rehabilitation as the Pre-Employment Transition Services Program Coordinator. C.J. loves working in her garden and backpacking. She accomplished hiking to the top of Mt. Whitney twice since 2012.

~Full disclosure: CJ works for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) but is doing this training as the President of the Oregon APSE chapter and is not representing VR during this training time.
