2017 Early Childhood Action Day AT HOME

In the past, Action Day gathered hundreds of ECE supporters at the Capitol in Harrisburg to deliver a message to state legislators that high quality early childhood education is a priority issue. This year we are spreading that same message across the state in all legislative districts through virtual, in-person and social media activities..

Consider the following methods to participate in Action Day AT HOME or use your creativity and tell us how you sent the message to your Senator or House of Representatives member:

  • Online Action - Send an email message via PennAEYC’s legislative action center (link coming soon!) to your legislator on Action Day. Or, use your imagination to create an activity that delivers the message quality early childhood education is an investment, not a cost, for the success of Pennsylvania's children and future!
  • Send Twitter or Facebook Messages to your policy makers letting them know how much early education funding means to your program, the families you serve and the people you employ (if you are a program director). Personal stories have the most impact. Find your legislator's contact information here. Use hashtags #InvestInUs and #MakeItCount.
  • Hands-on activity for providers/parents/children - Have children and parents complete coloring activities, art projects or write a stories and deliver them to legislators’ district offices in your region. Deliver the message that early childhood education is an investment for Pennsylvania's children, families and future.
  • Phone Bank - Establish a phone bank in your program and have parents and staff call your legislator's office to deliver the message that early childhood education programs are a priority for Pennsylvania's children and future. Find your legislator's contact information here

Regardless of the activities you choose to do, be sure to TELL YOUR STORY

  • The children and the difference that quality early childhood programs make in their lives.
  • The teachers, staff and the critical role their skills and expertise play in quality program
  • The on-going challenges (subsidy waiting lists, staff turn over, unmet needs of Keystone STARS, Head Start and Pre-K Counts)
  • The successes that investing in quality produces (early brain development, school readiness, family economic success, connections to community and saving in future social costs).
