Clinical Scholar October 2018

Are you an experienced registered nurse who would like to share your wealth of knowledge with men and women entering your profession?  If so, we need nurses like you to become Clinical Scholars!

 What is a Clinical Scholar?

A Clinical Scholar is a Baccalaureate prepared or higher level prepared (except by special permission) registered nurse who works with a School of Nursing to instruct nursing students in a clinical setting.  In general, Clinical Scholars maintain their current employment status in a clinical facility and ideally host nursing students there.  Clinical Scholars assist with the valuable, hands-on instruction that can only be provided by skilled, veteran nurses.  Additionally, Clinical Scholars will be involved in the evaluation of nursing students. Upon completion of the course the expectation is that the Clinical Scholar will be actively involved in teaching nursing students.

I’ve never been an instructor before. Can I attend?

Absolutely!  The Clinical Scholar Workshop was created for this very reason.  In order to attend the workshop, you should hold at least a BSN*, and be available to lead clinical rotations.  Since space in the workshop is limited, only those who will actively seek out clinical rotations should attend.  Some of the topics covered during the workshop include:

  • Planning and managing a successful clinical rotation
  • Identifying learning styles of students, and how to work with each
  • Legal and ethical issues that guide the clinical role
  • The role of technology in teaching and learning
  • Handling difficult situations - such as a student nurse that is failing
  • And much more...

When is the workshop being held?  How much does it cost?  Can I earn nursing Continuing Education Contact Hours?

The workshop is hosted by the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence and will be held October 15-19, 2018 from 7:30 am – 4:30 pm each day.  Participants are expected to attend all five days of the workshop to earn CE credit. Please carefully read the registration and financial policies below.

The fee for the workshop is $1495 and will cover all supplies, breakfast, lunch and snacks. Register by September 17, 2018 for an early bird discounted price of $1395.  Students who complete all five days of the workshop will be eligible to receive nursing Continuing Education Contact Hours.  The workshop is also available for graduate or undergraduate credit through Regis University.
