Super Supervision for Domestic Violence Programs - Spokane

Back by popular demand from WSCADV's 2015 conference!

Supervising is an undervalued skill even though it's central to great advocacy. Great supervising is also essential for organizational health.

In this workshop, you’ll learn about the supervision framework taught in WSCADV’s leadership program: Expectations, Feedback, Coaching, Mutual Accountability, Managing conflict, and Hot Tips for Effective Communication. You'll have time to practice these skills and connect with peers.

Bring a supervision challenge to work on in a small group (or by yourself if you prefer).

This training is designed to meet the new training requirements for supervisors of DV advocates (WAC 388-61A-0350). Supervisors of DV advocates will be given priority registration for this training.

About the Presenters:

Deadria Boyland, Program Coordinator, has served as a children's advocate, women's advocate, shelter manager, Community Advocacy Program manager, and board chair at domestic violence programs over a 22 year period. One of her absolute favorite parts of the job has been supervising, mentoring, and coaching advocates to reach their fullest potential. Deadria says, "It's not about perfection - it's about support, compassion, dignity, and being clear."
Judy Chen, Director of Strategic Initiatives, got into supervising by accident when she became an E.D. at an anti-violence program. A nonprofit geek, she's all about organizational development and setting things up for success long-term. She also coaches for the U.W. Executive MPA program. Judy says, "Good supervision doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes practice and peer support."
