Agenda:Why come to a rockweed rodeo? Rockweed, or Ascophyllum nodosum, is a common character in Maine’s rocky intertidal environments. An important player in the ecosystem, rockweed supports rich animal communities by providing protective cover at low tide and complex habitats at high tide. Rockweed is also part of a growing seaweed harvesting economy in Maine. Across the state, researchers, landowners, and managers are turning their attention to rockweed to better understand what this seaweed means for Maine.
Come find out what kind of data are being collected and what we hope it will tell us about this important species. We are also looking for landowners who are interested in helping us collect basic biological data on rockweed in the intertidal if they own shorefront land.
