There’s No “I” in Team:
HR Basics When Growing from Start-Up to 20+ Employees

You’ve done all the work to get your business up and running, and you are starting to see the momentum build. Suddenly, you find yourself starting to overflow and feel the need to bring in your first employee. Or maybe you’ve had 5 employees the last couple years, and now see your business ready to expand to the next level.

Then, you feel that rumble in your gut and the realization that your business’s success - and your dream - is more and more in the hands of your employees.

How do you know when it’s time to expand your team? How do you grow from start-up to small business without losing that start-up adrenaline?

Join us for a FREE, two-part series “There’s No ‘I’ in Team: HR Basics When Growing from Start-Up to 20+ Employees.”

In this series, we’ll take you through the key HR actions and considerations for growing your business from a start-up to a mature business with 20 employees. During these two sessions, we will guide you through ways in which business owners can ensure that their HR and people practices energize their businesses.

Session 1 - September 10th: Culture, Compliance Basics, and Recruiting & interviewing

Session 2 - September 17th: Hiring/Onboarding, Managing Performance, Engaging & Retaining Your Employees

Presented by Erin Mies. While not intending on a career in HR in school, Erin soon found the balance between business success and employee advocacy a place where she could thrive and add value. Her experience has involved coaching and consulting executives, leaders and managers in manufacturing, corporate, and international environments. Erin co-founded People Spark Consulting with Kristen Ireland in 2018, working primarily with small- and mid-sized businesses to grow their businesses with practical and smart HR strategies.

In addition to her professional experience, Erin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Music from Wittenberg University (Ohio), and a Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is certified through the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Erin resides in the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area with her husband and three small children.

Presented by Kristen Ireland. As a consultant and coach, Kristen focuses on understanding the business and ensuring it achieves its goals by aligning the culture, leadership, people and processes with business strategies. She is a thoughtful, innovative and strategic problem solver who believes it is critical to listen before providing a solution. To be effective, solutions must be tailored to the needs and simple. Kristen has earned her reputation for being a compassionate change agent that can influence behaviors needed for organizations to be successful.

Kristen has more than 20 years’ experience consulting and coaching executives, leaders and managers in both for profit and not for profit sectors, both domestically and internationally.  In addition to her work experience, she earned both my Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Masters of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota).  She is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), and a certified Change Practitioner from PROSCI.
